Wild Metal
Editorial ReviewPerhaps a better name for this game would be Mild Metal, because playing it won’t likely raise your temperature. Playing this enjoyable mission-based tank game is rather meditative, in that players are required to think tactically in order to reach their goals. Don’t expect to be wowed by graphics or sound effects, but do bring your brain for this old-school treasure hunt that looks and feels much more like a PC game than a Dreamcast title. To beat each level, players must drive a tank around large, hilly, desolate areas while scooping up precious containers of glowing energy capsules before dropping them off at your home base. This game challenges the player with a wildly varying elevation and drab-colored terrain. The control scheme for shooting is also tough to tackle. Players fire their tank’s cannon by pressing a button, but holding the button down will increase the angle of trajectory. Not only that, the energy capsules are often obstructed, requiring all sorts of physical puzzle solving to get at them. While not exactly thrill-a-minute, this game has plenty of depth and challenge to keep thoughtful gamers happy for quite some time. –Jeff Young Pros: New control scheme Impressive explosions Fun puzzle solving gameplay Cons: Drab graphics and sound fail to excite the senses

this game is not what it looks like. the multiplayer is fun with lots of cool fire power. in single player they do not say what the objective is. just one of the weird things about this game. BOTTEM LINE: do not get this game it is a ok but not what you think it is.

I bought it; it was very boring, the gameplay was uninspired. the graphics were not very good either. the game pace is slow and the tanks move very slowly

I wouldn’t give this game 4 or 5 stars because I reserve those for my favorites. However, though at first play this game may disappoint, it will become fun once you learn some strategies. This is not a charge-in and blow stuff up game. You slowly maneauver your tank around mountains and rain shells upon enemy bases. There is no lock-on target, no pumped-up music, nothing you’d expect. But the weather effects and the ambience are excellent. You can even hear the Doppler effect as a mortar is launched. And your tank can also get frustratingly stuck in snow. With 21 missions this is loaded. I take my time and spend an hour per mission, patiently eating away at my enemies. I could just as well take far less time because you have unlimited lives and enemies don’t regenerate. If you like Scorched Earth or projectile games you’ll like this simulation. Just don’t pay more for this game than you would on Chinese take-out.

I have had this games since it was released and I still play it. Like some of the reviews here I thought it would be an action packed blow-everything-up game. Although there are plenty of things to destroy just rushing in with barrels blazing is a sure fire way to an early death. This is as much a strategy game as it is a shooter. The graphics are good at best. I love the style of the game. Kinda like tanks made out some really cool lego toys. If any of you have played scorched earth, worms,or death tank you’ll have sort of an idea what to expect. It’s all about well placed shots and vantage points. A few other things I really take away from the games are: free-roam environments. See that mountain in the background? You can drive to it, climb it then roll land mines down onto the enemy. Someone mentioned it was too hard to find or to get the hard to reach crystals. When I see a crystal on a hill that I can’t reach I just lob a few mortars up there and the shock wave from the explosion will send it tumbling down. If you like strategy games where you see the enemy base and then use the surrounding terrain to your advantage, this may be a game you will enjoy. I bought mine the first day for $50 and loved it at that price. What a bargain now!
