I ordered ordered a brand new copy of this game from Amazon.

Unfortunately I couldn’t install it on my laptop, since due to the copy protection scheme my CD drive cannot read the first disk properly.

Strangely I could make a backup copy of it using a third party program but it cannot emulate the copy protection scheme, so I get an error message during installation.

I was very disappointed, since I’m a huge WW2 game fan and after the demo I got really excited about playing this game.

As I sat down to play this game, I did have high expectations and also expectations as to gameplay as well. I’m not totally unhappy with the results, just got some things I was not expecting.

The game overall is fun, picking unit members and their equipment (guns, med supplies, explosives, etc) is very good. The turn based play is also what I was looking for, for a change of scenary from all the FPS (first person shooters) games.

I have a pretty decent pc and video card, yet the camera seemed to be difficult to get a handle on, it was annoying but didn’t really take so much away that the game was unplayable.

STORY SPOILER don’t read below this if you don’t want to know storyline

What I wasn’t expecting and the reason why I had to give this game a 3 instead of a possible 4 is the turn in the story. Turns are good for stories keeps them from getting old rehash, but I was expecting a realistic setting, not the hi-tech, sci-fi that ended up becoming the story. Lasers, full armor suits and end up fighting non-tradional parties in WW 2 just kind of went overboard for me.

The first 3/4 is rather difficult (and lodes o fun), but after completing a few missions you learn the hang of it. There are those out there who do not like the lack of realism in teh story line (and some of the more advanced power weapons), but I say if you want realism read a book.

fun-4
duration (from start to finish)- 3
intrest duration- 4

This review will be short but sweet. Silent Storm Gold is a great game. The sheer scope of the game is amazing. Battles can be long and drawn out, but they never become boring simply because anything can happen. This is the only game I have ever played where EVERYTHING is literally destructible. . . and not in a scripted way. I don’t want to give it away by giving any specific descriptions, but believe me. . . it will amaze you when you see things blow up like you would never expect. And it actually changes your game, opening up different ways of seeing things or getting things accomplished.

The graphics are great, the sound is appropriate and the number of weapons and skills available is terrific.

This is a must have for any tactical RPG lover!

Got the game for my birthday from Amazon, and installed it on my new Dell XPS. Spend couple of hours playing the game, and it was fun, despite the lack of character interaction and the amazingly bad voice acting. No, it is not JA2, but at least the 3d squad tactics engine is pretty.
Then the problems started. Due to retarded copy protection, the games takes minutes to start, sometimes more. Sometimes it does not start at all, and you need to restart the PC. Last drop was the message “Insert original disk, not backup copy” when trying to play the game with the original disk.
Would not recomend the experience to anyone.
